Rhodes, Greece, is the largest of the island group known as the Dodecanese. It is situated in the south-east Aegean sea around the coast of Asia Minor. Rhodes is 52 miles in length and 22 miles in width. The northern tip of the island is within 7 miles of Turkey's coastline.
The economy of Rhodes is based on tourism, but agriculture also forms an important part, especially grains such as wheat, barley and oats. There are also many orange and olive groves, vineyards and the fishing industry.
From Britain, Rhodes is about a four and a half hour flight. The airport at Rhodes is very small by many standards.
