The Lake Grounds

The Lake Grounds

About the Lake

The man-made lake was dug by hand in 1910 and is home to a variety of bird life including swans and ducks. A small island in the middle of the lake provides nesting space and a number of small wooden huts provide shelter in bad weather.

Opposite the lake grounds is the Severn estuary with views across the water to Chepstow and Newport. Large cargo carrying vessels, small yachts and boat-trips are amongst the water traffic. The best views can be seen after a short walk up the hill to the lighthouse.

As well as the lake grounds, the marina at Portishead is a popular destination for a relaxing stroll.
