About PortisheadSince Victorian times Portishead has been considered an ideal place for a relaxing holiday by the sea.
Opposite the seafront are the Lake Grounds which offer the perfect spot to relax. The lake was dug by hand in 1910 and is host to many activities including: boating, canoeing and paddling. Football, cricket, putting and bowling are played on the scenic grounds during the summer months.
Along Nore Road, the Windmill Inn serves good pub food from 12.00 noon to 10.00pm every day. There are spectacular views along the coastal walks, and further inland the beautiful Gordano Valley.
The town of Portishead has a population of about 20,000 and is expanding rapidly. The town has a rich shipping history and the former docklands are now under residential development. The housing is based on a maritime theme. Plans for a state of the art library are in progress. Situated 10 miles south-west of Bristol in North Somerset, Portishead is quickly becoming popular as a commuter town. Just two miles from junction 19 of the M5 and just two hours from London on the daily coach link which runs an hourly service from the Motorway Service Station.
McDonald's, Homebase and Argos opened in the summer of 2005 whilst a large Waitrose store has serviced the town for a number of years. Why not take a look at some of the links above and take a tour of this peaceful seaside town.
